The funicular stations are in Piazza Matteotti (the same as the train station) and in Piazza Cahen (up on the city center). The funicular you to the center of Orvieto in a few minutes, and once you get to Piazza Cahen you can or take the local buses that stop in the main squares and streets. This system has been used for a long time, before the electric powered funicular there was a hydraulic funicular driven by a water counterweight. For this reason, in the past there was a water basin used solely for this purpose.

Today the funicular runs every 10 minutes, and it is open from 7:15am to 8:30pm, during holiday periods it is open from 8:00am to 8:30pm.
