Around Viterbo there are several warm springs, some are free and other places are charging an entry fee.
The water is from thermal springs, of volcanic origin and can be divided into two types:
hyperthermal waters at a temperature between 40°C and 65°C, they are sulphurous, sulphate, bicarbonate, alkaline earthy waters.
hypothermal waters at a temperature between 20°C and 30°C, they are bicarbonate, sulphate, alkaline, earthy, carbonic, ferruginous waters.
They are incredibly rich in beneficial properties and are effective in treating dermatological, otolaryngology, rheumatologist, gynecological, gastroenterological and circulatory problems.
The baths of the popes are the oldest in the city of Viterbo, they owe their name to the figure of Pope Nicholas V, the pope actually loved these baths and their healing properties so much that in 1450 he ordered the construction of a palace in order to be able to stay there anytime he wanted, this building took the name "Pope's Bath".
